Crime and Violence: Impediment within the Course of Progression of Individuals and Communities

Abstract: The individuals, belonging to all age groups, occupations, communities and socio-economic backgrounds, are subjected to various types of criminal and violent acts. These individuals are experienced in both their personal and professional lives. Individuals who engage in these acts are often family members and community members. It is unfortunate to note that within homes, educational institutions of all levels, employment settings and public places, individuals are subjected to various types of criminal and violent acts. The health conditions of the victims are affected, physically and psychologically. The prevalence of crime and violence is in both urban and rural communities. Individuals are required to be well-informed about techniques that facilitate the elimination of all types of criminal and violent acts. Individuals are required to ensure that they generate information on various factors, which will facilitate forming cordial and amiable terms and relationships with one another. One of the crucial aspects that needs to be taken into account is that individuals need to communicate with each other in a polite, courteous, and respectful manner. Furthermore, they need to ensure that they do not possess any negative feelings towards others, i.e., individuals within and outside their homes. The experiencing of crime and violence is detrimental not only for individuals, but also for communities and the nation as a whole. The research studies have indicated that both males and females are subjected to various types of criminal and violent acts. Furthermore, the doers are also males and females. Therefore, it can be stated that crime and violence hinder the progress of individuals and communities. The main concepts considered in this research paper are understanding crime and violence as a social problem, the causes of crime and violence, and the consequences of crime and violence.

Crime and Violence: Detrimental on Overall Living Conditions of Individuals

Abstract: The individuals, belonging to all communities throughout the country, get engaged in crime and violence. This is high among individuals, belonging to deprived, marginalized and economically weaker sections of the society. The experience of crime and violence has detrimental effects on the overall personality traits and living conditions of individuals. The health conditions of the individuals are affected both physically and psychologically. The influence of crime and violence is experienced in both major and minor forms. Individuals need to implement measures to provide practical solutions to these issues. Furthermore, these are prevented from giving rise to impediments during the process of improving one’s overall quality of life. Individuals from all occupations, communities, and socio-economic backgrounds need to be well-informed about the traits of morality and ethics. Furthermore, they need to recognize the detrimental effects of crime and violence. Hence, to form an effective social circle, comprising family and community members, individuals need to gather information on the factors that facilitate respectful communication. Furthermore, individuals need to treat others with courtesy. As a consequence, there will be no room for crime and violence. Therefore, it is well-understood that crime and violence are detrimental to the overall living conditions of individuals. The primary concepts examined in this research paper are the causes of crime and violence, the consequences of crime and violence, and the implementation of measures to prevent and eliminate crime and violence, which ultimately leads to the progression of individuals, communities, and nations.

Abstract: The concept of westernization, democratization and modernization has been arrogated by India superficially but when it comes to its real application, our rigid customs, suppositions, superstitious beliefs always supersede. India is a divine-vibrant land of mixed cultures, religions, and traditions, and hence it becomes imperative to be prejudice-free to become a fairer society. The nation where both god and goddesses are equally venerated, it becomes unjust to deny the entry of an individual in the temple based on gender. This case note will provide an analysis of the Sabarimala verdict in the legal and social context. It will also outline the subsequent ramification of the said decree. The present case examines the justification for disallowing women of menstruating age to pilgrimage to the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple. It encapsulates, in brief, the rationale behind the Supreme Court’s judgment allowing women to enter the shrine.

Over-the-Top Platforms’ Impact on Traditional Entertainment in India

Abstract: India’s entertainment industry has undergone a profound transformation with the rise of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, reshaping content production, distribution, and consumption. This study investigates the impact of these platforms on traditional entertainment, specifically television and cinema, within India’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar have introduced a paradigm shift, offering audiences flexibility, personalised content, and diverse options that are accessible across multiple devices. The research focuses on key questions, such as the specific changes in viewing habits and consumer behaviours, as well as traditional entertainment providers’ strategies to stay relevant. Using a mixed-methods approach, we conducted semistructured interviews with industry professionals and surveyed OTT consumers to provide both qualitative and quantitative insights. The study highlights that the shift towards OTT platforms is driven by factors such as convenience, technological advancement, and a preference for on-demand, personalized content. Additionally, the findings suggest that traditional entertainment models are facing unprecedented competition, compelling industry players to adapt their approaches to meet the changing demands of consumers. This analysis offers practical recommendations for traditional media companies, outlining adaptive strategies and potential avenues for collaboration with digital platforms. The results contribute to a broader understanding of the cultural and economic implications of OTT platform growth in India, offering strategic insights for stakeholders navigating this complex transition.

Abstract: This research examines the transformative role of social media in the fundraising strategies of non-profit organisations during crises, with a focus on the digital adaptation of Indian NGOs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a detailed examination of two prominent Indian non-profits—The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Give India—this research employs content analysis and explanatory case study methods to analyze the effectiveness of social media in fundraising efforts. The study examines how these organisations adapted their digital communication strategies to engage stakeholders, raise awareness, and generate funds through crowdfunding initiatives during the pandemic. The research methodology combines quantitative content analysis of social media campaigns with qualitative assessment of stakeholder engagement patterns to validate how social media content supports fundraising efforts during crisis periods. The findings reveal significant patterns in how successful non-profits leverage social media for crisis fundraising, demonstrating the crucial role of strategic digital communication in mobilizing resources for humanitarian causes. Based on these insights, the research proposes a comprehensive social model paradigm for non-profit organizations, providing practical frameworks for implementing effective social media campaign strategies. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital communication in the non-profit sector, offering valuable insights for organizations seeking to enhance their social media presence and fundraising capabilities during crisis situations.

The Development of Journalism in the Face of Social Media – A Study on Social Media’s Impact on a Journalist’s Role, Method, and Relationship to the Audience

Abstract: This article explores how social media has changed journalism, with a particular emphasis on how it has affected reporters’ roles, techniques, and interactions with audiences. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have given journalists new opportunities as well as difficulties [1]. These platforms’ introduction has sped up news cycles and moved the emphasis from in-depth reporting to quick, snappy content creation [2]. As a result of this change, journalists must learn to work in a faster-paced news environment and handle the challenges of information overload and source verification [vi]. Both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies are used in this study. Ten journalists participated in in-depth interviews to collect qualitative data, which showed how social media has drastically changed traditional reporting practices by requiring a balance between accuracy and speed [12]. The spread of false information and the pressure to give sensationalism top priority to achieve high engagement metrics have been identified as major obstacles [13]. Quantitative analysis based on surveys of 250 journalists highlights variations in the frequency of audience interaction, the number of platforms used, and the reliance on social media for news sourcing. According to the research, social media is heavily relied upon by journalists, with 27.2% of them utilising it for 41–60% of their news sourcing and differing degrees of audience interaction. “The ethical ramifications of social media in journalism are also examined in the study.” While some journalists find that social media enhances audience engagement and accelerates the dissemination of news, others are concerned about its detrimental effects on journalistic ethics and integrity. According to the study’s findings, social media can increase interaction and immediacy, but it can also make it difficult to uphold ethical standards and accuracy.

Journalism and Advancing Human Rights: Suo Motu Cases in India

Abstract: Journalism plays a pivotal role in advancing human rights. Newspapers and media not only inform citizens about human rights, but they are also key in reporting incidents of their violation. In India, this journalistic responsibility is heightened manifold with the suo motu cognizance afforded through the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Applying suo motu, the NHRC issues orders and acts without being petitioned. As such, newspapers and media in India have the capacity not just to increase public awareness but also to lead to direct remedial action. In this paper, NHRC suo motu cases registered in the study period of five months from April 2024 to August 2024 are examined. This includes a total of 65 eligible cases, of which 60% stem from 7 newspapers and 40% from 21 additional newspapers. Nearly three-quarters (48 of the 65 cases) are reported from 7 states. The cases cover hazardous and illegal employment, rape and sexual offences, medical issues, negligence and mismanagement by authorities, police mistreatment, and other incidents. Four illustrative cases of deaths filed within the NHRC for suo motu cognisance are presented in detail, reflecting the nature and content of grievances related to human rights violations in India. These include sewer deaths, suicide due to police harassment, a police custody death, and death by electrocution. By understanding suo motu cases in the human rights context in India, journalists can gain perspective on their role in advancing the dignity of our society.

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has revolutionised the traditional educational system, requiring schools and universities to implement virtual classrooms as a viable way of continuing operations. This shift has presented several challenges to classroom management, yet it also presents educators with new prospects for engaging their students in the virtual learning space. This review examines the implications of virtual classroom management, its relevance to contemporary educational practices, and provides strategies for successful implementation. Finally, this review provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges and prospects of virtual classroom management. While the challenges are significant, the potential of virtual classrooms to create meaningful learning experiences is undeniable. It must be harnessed by schools and universities if educational outcomes are to be achieved in the post-pandemic environment.
